Syngenta Group China has announced a partnership with McDonald’s China and McCain China to develop a more resilient and sustainable potato supply chain. The three companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo, aiming to implement sustainable farming practices and integrate smart technologies across potato production in the region.
The pilot framework focuses on transforming local potato farming, supply, and processing. Syngenta Group China will apply science-based planting approaches to improve agricultural outcomes. This includes leveraging the company’s full suite of agronomic inputs, digital farming solutions, and its nationwide network of Modern Agriculture Platform (MAP) technical service centres.
The initiative aims to address several key areas of potato cultivation, including:
Soil health management
Customised crop stewardship
Precision fertigation
Integrated pest management
Intelligent field monitoring
SU Fu, President of Syngenta Group China, stated that agriculture currently faces pressure from resource constraints, requiring a shift toward resilience. The objective is to provide innovative technologies and modern farming services to potato farmers to support income stability and reinforce the value chain.
Jim SHI, Chief Supply Chain Officer of McDonald’s China, noted that consistent product quality begins with farm-level cultivation. By utilising Syngenta’s expertise in agricultural inputs and sustainable solutions, the company intends to maintain reliable production standards for the Chinese market.
LIU Linlin, Managing Director of McCain China, added that the tripartite agreement builds upon a long-standing partnership between McCain and McDonald’s. The collaboration seeks to advance the high-quality development of China’s potato sector through sustainable agricultural technologies, shared benefits for farmers, and the integration of digital traceability and quality assurance systems.
