Revived heritage brand Slice Soda, now operating under the Suja Life umbrella, has announced a strategic expansion of its functional beverage line with the launch of two new flavours: Pacific Pop and Apple.
The new SKUs have secured nationwide distribution at Target, positioning the brand to capture the growing "healthy soda" market by blending 80s nostalgia with modern gut-health functionality.
Flavour Innovation and Consumer Feedback
The product expansion is driven by a mix of seasonal strategy and direct consumer demand.
The New Additions:
🍍🍊 Pacific Pop: A tropical blend featuring tangy citrus, pineapple, and passionfruit. Positioned as a "vacation in a can," this flavour is timed to offer a bright contrast during the winter retail window.
🍎 Apple: Originally tested as a limited-run giveaway in 2025, this flavour is entering the permanent lineup following "massive excitement" and high request volumes from the brand's fanbase.
Formulation: High Carbonation and Gut Health
Slice distinguishes itself in the crowded functional soda category through a specific sensory attribute: carbonation. The brand claims to offer the highest carbonation level in the category, addressing a common consumer complaint regarding the "flat" mouthfeel of many prebiotic sodas.
Nutritional Specifications (Per Can):
Functional Blend: Features a "gut-loving" trio of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics.
Fibre: 5g.
Sugar: Limited to 4g (No High Fructose Corn Syrup).
Calories: 35-40 calories.
Nicole Portwood, Chief Marketing Officer at Suja Life, commented on the innovation pipeline:
"We're slicing right into 2026, giving our fans even more fun and bold flavours. From our take on a beloved tropical refresher to the return of our most highly-requested flavour, 2026 marks another year of innovation for Slice, and we're so excited to keep delighting our fans with better-for-you remixes of the classics."
Strategic Context
Since its retail return in 2025, Slice has successfully pivoted from a legacy sugary soft drink to a functional lifestyle brand. The new flavours join an extensive portfolio that includes Shirley Temple, Root Beer, Cherry Cola, and Ginger Ale, reinforcing the strategy of "remixing" classic soda profiles with clean-label credentials.
