Nescafé is extending its presence in the high-growth at-home iced coffee segment with the addition of two new variants to its Espresso Concentrated range. The launch of Mocha and Decaf follows the successful introduction of the liquid concentrate format last year and aims to provide consumers with increased versatility in the premium coffee category.
The new varieties join the existing lineup of Classic, Caramel, and Vanilla, targeting the UK’s preference for customisable, barista-style cold coffee beverages.
Research and Development in Liquid Coffee Technology
The Espresso Concentrated product was developed by Nestlé's R&D teams, leveraging the company's proprietary roasting and brewing technologies. This liquid format represents a strategic shift in the "coffee shop at home" experience, moving away from traditional instant granules toward a more concentrated, multi-serve liquid base.
Each bottle provides 16 servings of premium liquid coffee. The concentrated format is designed to integrate with various milk bases, including dairy and plant-based alternatives like oat or coconut milk, reflecting broader consumer shifts toward dairy-free options.
Strategic Market Positioning and Growth
The expansion into Decaf and Mocha addresses specific consumer segments within the UK and Ireland. The addition of a Decaf option allows the brand to capture evening consumption occasions, while the Mocha variant targets the growing demand for chocolate-flavoured coffee profiles.
Ingrid Hayes, Marketing Director for Nescafé UK and Ireland, noted that the launch is a direct response to the "huge success" of the initial Espresso Concentrated rollout. Hayes emphasised that the range is designed to offer a balance of quality and affordability, allowing consumers to replicate complex iced coffee recipes without specialised equipment.
Operational and Retail Logistics
The launch strategy centres on ease of preparation and retail accessibility. The product requires a simple three-step process—combining ice, 150ml of milk or a milk alternative, and 30ml of the concentrate—to create a finished beverage.
Key details for the rollout include:
Product Form: Multi-serve 16-serving liquid concentrate.
New Variants: Mocha and Decaf.
Timeline: Nationwide availability starting mid-March 2026.
Distribution: UK and Ireland retail channels.
Nescafé continues to maintain its position as the top-selling instant coffee brand in the UK while diversifying into liquid formats to stay aligned with the evolving tastes of modern coffee enthusiasts. This expansion reinforces Nestlé's broader strategy of defending its market share through rapid innovation in the functional and premium beverage sectors.
