Europastry has entered into an agreement to acquire Highland Baking Company, a family-owned producer of premium breads for the foodservice sector. This transaction is designed to increase Europastry’s footprint in the North American market and diversify its product offering across the region.
Founded in 1987, Europastry is a global player in the frozen bakery industry, operating in more than 90 countries with a workforce of over 5,500 employees. The company’s portfolio encompasses a range of products from artisan breads to frozen pastries.
Operational Impact and Market Growth
The acquisition brings Highland Baking Company’s production infrastructure into the Europastry group. This includes two production facilities located in Northbrook, Illinois, and Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Following the close of the transaction, the combined organisation is expected to generate annual revenues exceeding $2.3 billion globally. Europastry plans to launch an investment programme within the United States to expand production capacity, introduce new product categories, and integrate its bakery innovation capabilities for American customers.
Continuity and Business Integration
Highland Baking Company will continue to operate under its current brand identity and management team. This approach is intended to ensure business continuity and maintain existing customer and supplier relationships.
The integration is built upon a shared business vision, with both companies citing a focus on product quality, continuous innovation, and a family-oriented corporate culture. Jordi Galles, Executive Chairman of Europastry, noted that the combination provides an opportunity to create a broader global bakery business by leveraging the talent and operational capabilities of both organisations.
Stuart Rosen, CEO of Highland Baking Company, added that the partnership allows the business to develop further while preserving its identity.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the necessary regulatory approvals. The acquisition is currently expected to close in the second half of 2026.
