The latest food and beverage industry news and trend analysis

French plant-based pork specialist La Vie has announced a significant category innovation for the UK market, introducing what it claims to be the country's first Vegan Salami Sticks.

Rolling out nationwide on 2 January 2026 to coincide with Veganuary, the launch expands the brand's footprint beyond bacon and ham alternatives into the ambient snacking occasion. The range has secured major retail listings at Waitrose and Ocado.

Product Technology and Formulation

La Vie leverages its patented vegetable fat technology to replicate the mouthfeel and "juiciness" of traditional cured meats. The sticks are formulated from a base of wheat and vegetable proteins, seasoned with natural spices and fruit flavourings.

Key Product Attributes:

  • Clean Label: Free from artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, and nitrates.

  • Nutritional Profile: High in protein (34g per 100g) and a source of fibre.

  • Health Comparison: Contains approximately 20% less saturated fat and 30% less salt than leading pork-based salami competitors, with a significantly lower caloric density.

Flavour Architecture and Format

The range debuts with two distinct flavour profiles designed to mimic the classic charcuterie experience:

  • Classic: A traditional cured profile.

  • Spicy: Infused with heat notes.

Packaging: Sold in 75g pouches containing six sticks, positioned as a convenient on-the-go protein source for flexitarians and meat reducers.

Sustainability Credentials

La Vie underscores the environmental efficiency of the product line compared to conventional animal agriculture. According to company data, the portfolio generates 88% less CO2, utilises 82% less water, and requires 74% less land than conventional pork production.

Romain Jolivet, Chief Marketing Officer at La Vie, emphasised the brand's philosophy of driving change through sensory pleasure rather than restriction:

“At La Vie, we’ve always believed that people don’t change what they eat because they’re told to, but because they want to. Changing a habit is far easier when the alternative feels just as indulgent, just as social and far more enjoyable. With our Vegan Salami Sticks, we’re proving that when you truly win on taste, texture and health, the switch away from pork becomes effortless.”
