Aramark Collegiate Hospitality has announced a strategic evolution of its residential dining model, launching The Gathering Place™. The new concept, rolling out nationwide in 2026, is designed to transform traditional campus dining halls into community hubs that address specific Gen Z priorities regarding mental wellness and social connection.

The initiative represents a shift from purely transactional food service to experiential hospitality, developed directly from insights provided by Aramark’s Council of Student Advisors (CSA) and extensive campus focus groups.

Student-Led Design and Mental Wellness

The concept is engineered to function as a "third space" on campus—a hybrid environment for dining, studying, and socialising. Aramark’s research highlights a growing student demand for authentic connection spaces that foster a sense of belonging.

Key Features:

  • Modular Design: Customisable layouts including branded welcome walls and community story displays.

  • Interactive Dining: Chef’s tables designed to break down the barrier between kitchen and consumer.

  • Social Zones: Integrated gaming lounges and study pods.

  • Wellness Focus: Hydration stations and environments built on four sustainability pillars: Energy, Action, People, and Planet.

Karen Parker, Chief Marketing Officer for Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, commented on the development process: “The Gathering Place is more than a dining hall—it’s a student-driven vision brought to life. By listening to students, we’ve created an experience that amplifies school spirit and fosters belonging.”

Early Adoption: Cleveland State University

Cleveland State University (CSU) has been confirmed as a pioneer partner for the concept. The CSU implementation highlights the localised customisation capability of the model, featuring menu items tailored to the specific campus identity.

Signature CSU Items:

🌯 Green Machine Burrito

🥪 'Vike It Up' Grilled Cheese

🥬 Spinach Queso

Vince Phipps, Regional Vice President for Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, noted: “The CSU Gathering Place will capture Cleveland pride and create a dining experience that feels like home. Signature menu items... were developed specifically for the CSU community.”

Strategic Rollout

The nationwide rollout marks a significant capital and operational commitment from Aramark, aiming to modernise its footprint across the more than 275 colleges and universities it currently serves.
